Description

Zest Food Tours has been providing this unique private gourmet travel experience for two to four guests since 2003. Discerning travellers rarely have the chance to be welcomed into a Wellington foodie’s home and treated to genuine kiwi hospitality for afternoon tea.

The day includes all of the classic Zest Capital Tastes and Walking Gourmet activities (coffee, cheese, chocolate, honey, fruits, salami, gelato, street art, city history, wine or craft beer-matched lunch at a top Wellington restaurant, and more), as well as being welcomed into the home of a local foodie to delight in a delicious home-made afternoon tea.

The tour commences from your inner city accommodation at 9.15am Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), where we will introduce ourselves and conduct the health and safety briefing before we commence at 9.30am.

The tours go ahead in all weather, so please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing appropriate to the day, including coat or sunscreen. We will walk approximately 90 minutes throughout the course of the tour (broken up by delicious eats and drinks!), and although Wellington City is flat, there are some steps and ramps. Unfortunately the tour is not generally suitable for persons in wheelchairs or with walking limitations.

During the course of the tour we will sample artisan food and drinks at each stop (approx 5 stops before lunch), and in some cases peek behind the scenes to see where the magic happens. You will meet the passionate people behind the products, hear their stories, and get a great understanding of what makes Wellington tick.

And then we will continue to a top Wellington restaurant for a light two-course lunch matched with NZ wines or craft beer. This allows you to enjoy more time with your guide and find out more about our lovely harbour city or New Zealand in general. We then transfer to a private home to enjoy afternoon tea and continue that journey of discovery.

All eats and drinks during the tour are included in the tour price. Please note - if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please provide details in the 'Special Requirements' field at the time of booking. We will do our best to make appropriate substitutions whenever possible, but require advance notification to do so.

The tour will conclude at approx 3.30pm with delivery back to your inner city accommodation, or other agreed inner city location.

We recommend you book your tour for early in your Wellington stay, as our local knowledgeable guides will share loads of information about the best places to explore and eat and drink while you are in our lovely harbour city.

We are proud to be a sustainable business that works in partnership with all of our lovely artisan food producers. We choose partners who are highly ethical and sustainable in their practices, and we pay for the tastes on tour to support the sustainability of their businesses. It also means we are able to choose where we take you without obligations or commercial constraints.

We also partner with two local charities who do great work in our communities - a food rescue organisation called Kaibosh who redistribute food that would otherwise go to waste, and Eat My Lunch who ensure no NZ child attends school without a lunch.
